Abstract
An Uni-diameter Tail tapered Fabry-Perot Interferometer, UTFI, based on the concept of the well known fibre optic Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometer strain sensor, was geometrically developed for improved embedding properties in carbon/epoxy composites. The sensor was annealed and etched with HF-acid for improved strength and re-coated with polyimide for moisture protection. The correlation between fringe visibility and geometrical parameters of the sensor was studied to establish requirements for the manufacturing process.
