Abstract
A detailed comparison of experimental and theoretical signal to noise ratio in IR optical heterodyne detection has been made. The influence of the heterodyne quantum efficiency of the detector and the influence of thermal effects induced by local oscillator signal and supply current of the detector in the signal to noise ratio are analyzed.
