28 March 1995Implementation of liquid crystal arrays as complex field modulators
An architecture for combining two twisted nematic liquid crystal arrays (LCTV's) to independently control amplitude and phase modulation of light is examined experimentally. The arrays are driven with the complex information of the inverse Fourier transform of amplitude-only images. Optical Fourier transformation is used to restore the amplitude images. Methods for experimental determination of amplitude and phase properties of LCTV's are also detailed.
