Abstract
A new technique for finding object pose in 2D is presented. Given an object model and an image of the object, the algorithm uses a hierarchical approach to quickly prune out areas of the image that do not contain the object. At higher resolutions hypothesized object positions are refined and pruned according to a match score based on the current resolution. Once the best position hypotheses are obtained at maximum resolution, a second image of the object is used to pinpoint its 3D position. The system was used to correct the positions of hundreds of 3D object models of buildings in outdoor scenes.
