Abstract
In this paper we quantitatively evaluate the amount of residual registration error for different settings of an internal parameter of our surface-based multimodality registration system. The investigated parameter controls the accuracy in representing one of the surfaces to be registered. Computational complexity of our registration system is also directly related to the surface representation accuracy for a given data set. We measured registration error using a previously developed reference data set, which accurately determines registration error at many locations throughout the brain. We found a smaller registration error when the registered surface was represented more accurately. The difference in error was not as large as anticipated, suggesting that less accurate representations can be used by our system.
