31 May 1996 Performance of an adaptive algorithm for suppressing intraframe jitter in a 3D signal processor

An adaptive algorithm is proposed here for the suppression of intraframe jitter in images acquired from mechanically scanned electro-optic sensors. This artifact can arise in images obtained from sensors whose focal plane detectors are assembled in a staggered fashion to alleviate aliasing in the cross-scan direction. The artifact manifests itself in a local tearing of the image. The problem is exacerbated in high frequency clutter and may affect clutter cancellation in subsequent matched filtering steps. The proposed algorithm is applied, in this paper, to actual sensor data which contains jitter taken from the Airborne Infrared Measurement System sensor. Performance is assessed based on a suite of injected targets as well as real targets in the scene.
