Using ultra-fast laser pulse for source, lots of research in measuring the transfer characteristics of linear optical system have been done. Because the sample ability and time resolution of the measurement system are limited, what we measure is not the temporal profile of single pulse but the overlapping profile of numerous pulses. So the time-resolved transfer function of linear optical system can't be obtained directly. But we have founded the model of it with the knowledge of statistical optics. With this model and measurable data, the time-resolved transfer function and impulse response of linear optical system for ultra-fast pulse could be obtained. Here, a grating spectrometer is used for the linear optical system and the source is Ar-ion laser pumping dye laser. The input and output data of the spectrometer have been measured when the wavelength changed from 590 nm to 630 nm with the step of 10 nm. Applying the model, we have obtained the time-resolved transfer function of grating spectrometer in different wavelength. The pulse broadening characteristics of grating spectrometer in different wavelengths is also discussed in this paper.
