14 November 1996 Planning and interpreting AE experiments to monitor crack growth at elevated temperatures

Abstract
The need for AE monitoring electric power piping is discussed. An extensive laboratory program explored the feasibility of detecting crack propagation during isothermal, constant load tests. Emissions consistent with creep crack growth were detected. Test methods, specimen preparation and data obtained are described.
