Abstract
This paper presents an historical perspective on the development of signal processing devices including trade-offs between analog and digital approaches. Comparisons will be made between ultra high-speed analog technologies including electro-optics, surface acoustic waves, and charge-coupled devices. Also discussed will be some new architectures for real-time digital processors.
