Abstract
A methodology for implementing cost as a design requirement is described using design-for-assembly, process capability, Gaussian statistics, and improvement curves. The application of the method to the design of a millimeter wave transceiver in a radar-guided missile is presented. A cost savings of over 30% relative to a baseline design is documented.
