Abstract
With the increased availability of wideband radars, high resolution in range which means target discrimination can be possible. In this paper, a new approach for target recognition is proposed and tested on backscattering returns of high range resolution (HRR) radar. The matrix pencil method is used to extract scattering centers from full-polarization multi- frequency scattering returns. Feature vectors are constructed using the concept of a transient polarization response (TPR). The classification of feature vectors is performed by the multiresolution neural network that provides some properties superior to back-propagation neural networks. The algorithm is applied to the recognition of five scaled models of war aircrafts at different signal-to-noise ratios.
