10 October 1997QoS parameter translation for the MPEG services beween layers in ATM networks
As multimedia communication services have been widely spreading, video traffic rapidly increases in B-ISDN based on the ATM technology. In this paper, we propose the analytical model showing the relation between image quality and cell losses for the MPEG-1-encoded video traffic and verify this analysis with simulations. Simulations reveal that the amount of practically measured image quality degradation is almost the same as that obtained by our analysis model. When CLR is lower than 10-3, the amount of image quality degradation is about 1 approximately 5%. Our analysis between layers can be extended and applied to `Call Admission Control' for MPEG video services.
