Abstract
Inner-shell ionization and hollow atom x-ray lasers are studied in order to propose a short wavelength x-ray laser system. For hollow atom x-ray laser Mg vapor with 1017 cm-3 density and Larmor x-rays are treated as a target material and x-rays are treated as a target material and x-ray source, respectively. The Larmor x-rays are suitable as a pump x-ray source because they have high brightness and short pulse. Their peak intensity and energy spectrum are appropriate for inner-shell ionization. The necessary intensities of x-ray source are obtained by x-ray intensity of 1013W/cm2 and 3 X 1013 W/cm2 in inner-shell ionization and hollow atom x-ray lasers, respectively. For short wavelength inner-shell ionization x- ray emission, Na-like ions are good target. By x-ray intensity of 2 X 1015W/cm2 at a few keV photon energy, the gain is about 10 cm-1 for more than 10 fs with use of Na-like S ion.
