Abstract
Data focusing is the final processing step needed to transform GPR data into 2D and 3D images that can be directly interpreted by the NDT end-user. Focusing techniques provide the best result when the data are good and well pre-processed. Typically, the background subtraction is one of the most critical steps that might have a significant impact on the final result. Thus, we concentrated our attention on this problem in normal and special case (i.e., in presence of shallow horizontal targets), proposing some tricks to achieve the goal. In the second part of the paper, we present few 2D and 3D imaging examples, where the improvement of focusing on the final imaging result is extremely evident.
