Abstract
In this work, we study the velocity distribution of external and internal flows fluids by using the properties of light scattering. The optical methods and principles used are part of a field known as laser velocimetry. More specifically, we have tired developing and understanding the characteristics and limitation of the techniques of analyses of laser light scattering caused by micro particles suspended in the fluid. As a basic application of study in the internal flows, we have used the operation modes known by PIV of high-density particles in order to get the map of velocity distribution of fluid flows in a passage with rectangular section. The measurements were compared with an alternative technique of measuring velocity using the continuity equation and proved the validity of the methods utilized. As a basic application of the study of external flows, we use the PIV of high- density particles mode to produce the map of velocity distribution in the contour of a prismatic form. The measurements showed good concordance of the different techniques used.
