Abstract
The relationship between crosstalk of an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) and the parameters such as the width of the waveguide, the pitches of output waveguides and the number of waveguides in the array were studied theoretically and numerically in this paper. The beam propagation method (BPM) was used for numerically investigating the crosstalk. The simulation results show that when the pitches of output waveguides is small, the crosstalk is mainly dependent on them. However, when they are large enough, the crosstalk is caused mainly by the sidelobe level of the focal field at the image plane. The results also show that choosing a suitable number of the arrayed waveguides is more effective than only increasing it. The impact of the width of the waveguide on the crosstalk is also studied.
