Abstract
The conditioning of the matrix to be inverted in the Crank-Nicholson implementation of the FD-BPM is investigated. It is shown that in spite of a common belief that the Crank-Nicholson method is power conserving, due to the ill-conditioned matrix the results may be deteriorated completely. The critera for an assessment of this effect are given.
