Abstract
I am very pleased to be able to share with the reader a summary of Rudolf Kingslake’s life and his contributions to the discipline of optical science and engineering, a discipline he really believed in with dedication and passion. Hilda Kingslake shared in a major part of Rudolf’s life (they were married for over 73 years and had been students of optics together for six years before their marriage). Hilda contributed a great deal of her own professional life to optics. They were both my friends and colleagues for thirty five years.
