Abstract
It is useful in applications of imaging moving vehicles to view the relative motion from a "target-centric" viewpoint. It was shown in a previous paper by the same authors that using "novel" definitions of the SAR fundamental angles and viewing the problem from a target-centric perspective allows one to determine how a moving target is projected into the range-doppler plane. This paper develops a clear and concise mathematical "connection" from the source of the motion estimation error to the projection of the target scattering centers into the range-doppler plane. It is already known that making accurate scatterer predictions is essential to the performance of a model-based ATR (MBATR) subsystem. Therefore, the ability to make better predictions of scatterer locations should naturally lead to improved MBATR performance against moving targets.
