Abstract
In this paper, we demonstrate that three-dimensional integrated optical devices can be realized using the mirroring properties of multimode interference. Using numerical simulations, the minimum optical loss between 3μm singlemode waveguides in adjacent vertical layers is found to be 0.12 dB at an image distance of 211μm. An optical bridge is also demonstrated with an optical power loss of 0.24 dB in a total device length of 725μm.
