30 October 2006 Simplified adaptive controller design of attitude and momentum for space station

Abstract
Adaptive controllers are often used to control the attitude and momentum when the physical parameters are not known exactly in the space station. However, large amount of calculations are needed in the implementation of the adaptive controllers. Therefore, a simplified adaptive controller is designed according to the simplified nonlinear dynamics of the space station with large pitch angles. Thus, the controller of this paper can reduce the calculation burden effectively, while maintaining the ability of the parameter uncertainty rejection. Furthermore, this controller can establish a proper tradeoff between station pointing and momentum management of the control moment gyroscopes, while satisfying the specific mission requirements. And also, this controller has a simple form and is easy to implement. Simulation results of a certain space station indicate that the controller presented above is feasible.
