Abstract
NiTi wire was anodized in phosphoric acid, diluted hydrogen fluoride, and fluoric ions containing non-aqueous electrolytes. Surface morphologies and compositions of modified NiTi wires were characterized by using field-emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM) equipped with an energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The formation of oxides with reduced nickel element was observed on NiTi wires anodized in aqueous solution. Nano-roughness with lower surface hardness, compared to smooth surface formed in phosphoric acid, was obtained by anodization in hydrogen fluoride. After treatment in aqueous solution, corrosion resistance was improved as indicated by linear sweep voltammetry test in 0.9 % NaCl solution at room temperature. Uniform hydroxyapatite film on NiTi and anodized NiTi was obtained by electrodeposition method.
