Abstract
JPEG2000 standard provides a series of good performance. The Region Of Interest (ROI) coding is one of the important features. People always hope that the quality and the priority of their interesting regions are higher than background (BG) region in the course of transmission. ROI coding methods defined in JPEG2000 are introduced in the paper: the General Scaling-based method and the Maximum shift (Maxshift) method. Based on the Maxshift method, we proposed a new method which removes the high-frequency part of BG of the Maxshift method. It can improve compression ratio, reduce the computer complexity and optimize ROI coding purpose.
