Abstract
Recently developed synthetic sapphire cristal tips can be easily attached to the end of a quartz fiber: contact irradiation of the target prevents backscattering of laser energy and allows low-power coagulation of bleeding sources and vaporization of tumors as well as mechanical removal of tissue. Clinical experience in 12 patients treated both with contact method and with conventional non-contact method is presented.
