Abstract
Optical parametric oscillators are shown to generate a pair of light beams correlated in such a way that the difference of their intensities is below the usual shot noise limit. They can be used to produce intensity stabilized light beams below the quantum limit. We have calculated the noise characteristics of such a device and describe the first stages of an experiment designed to show such effects.
