Abstract
Optical communication links using retro-reflectors underwater are investigated. In the retro-reflector geometry, backscattered light from turbid waters can interfere with the retro-reflected information signal. Presented here are polarization techniques to reduce the contribution of backscatter, as well as an evaluation on the impact of communication link range and reliability.
