Abstract
Various techniques for three-dimensional/two-dimensional switchable liquid crystal displays are introduced. Key component of the three-dimensional/two-dimensional switchable displays is an active optical device with an on/off function. Liquid crystal has electrically controllable optical properties, making it ideal for the active optical devices. The applications of the liquid crystal to various three-dimensional/two-dimensional switchable displays including glassestype stereoscopic displays, autostereoscopic displays, and integral imaging displays are reviewed.
