Abstract
In this paper, we study the mathematics of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging in the cross-range as well as a mathematical model for SAR imaging. An introduction to the cross-range image scenario is given to establish the relationship between the received signal and the desired target function. More importantly, we present a detailed derivation of the slowtime sample spacing, which corrects the formulation by Soumekh.1 A cross-range imaging algorithm and a comparison of the results with those previously obtained are given based on our slow-time sample spacing. The method of stationary phase, which is used is used to approximate the spectrum of the echoed signal, is discussed in an appendix. Finally, we discuss a mathematical model for 3D SAR and ISAR imaging - Maxwell's equations for SAR image reconstruction.
