Abstract
Soil moisture is the most important parameter in hydrology and meteorology, as well as in the fields of many agricultural sciences. According to the water absorption rate curve, this paper proposes that the reflectivity of the band 6th and 7th of MODIS image data can be used to monitor soil moisture content and made comparisons with the Temperature Vegetation Drought Index (TVDI). Through field investigation of desertified area of Xinjiang, China, we confirm that there is a good negative correlation between the reflectivity of the band 7th of MODIS image data and the surface humidity. The result shows that the reflectivity of the Band 7 is an effective way to monitor the soil moisture of desertified areas in a large scale.
