Abstract
The aim of the paper is to discuss the method for lightning early warning. The methods involve a few ways. Firstly, the signals of electric field before lightning are detected by atmospheric electric apparatus. Then, the signals of electric field before lightning are decomposed with the algorithm of Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD). Compared with the signals in sunny days, the frequency and energy features of each mode are proposed. The results show that the algorithm of Empirical Mode Decomposition is able to distinguish the activity of electric field before lightning. The method could be used for lightning early warning about 30 minutes.
