Abstract
Tutorial and training course «Optical Two-Frequency Domain Reflectometry» are devoted to the theory and technical equipment of reflectometers for fiber optical structures monitoring in two- frequency domain. Optical two-frequency probing radiation is synthesized on the base of unique manipulating technique of initial one-frequency light wave amplitude and phase. The output frequencies are symmetrical relatively to suppressed initial one and have equal amplitudes and alternative phases. The principle of two-frequency symmetrical probing radiation synthesis is summarized. A series of functional optical-sensing systems, including fiber-optic reflectometers and interrogators for multiplexed fiber Bragg gratings or Fabry-Perot interferometers sensors are introduced. Fully distributed fiber-optic strain sensing system based on Brillouin frequency shift is highlighted and four-wave mixing compensating system is also presented. Miscellaneous applications in biosensors and two-frequency signal forming for photonic microwave filters synthesis are also reviewed. This course recommended for students, undergraduates and graduate students of radio-engineering and telecommunication schools.
