Abstract

In this paper we discuss the philosophical inspirations underlying the description of “concept” in Formal Concept Analysis (FCA). We pose a question: What is the concept of “concept” in FCA? Firstly, we show how the term “concept” can be understood in philosophy. Then, we describe how formal concept is defined in FCA. At the end, we try to indicate the connections between the notion of “concept” in philosophy and of “formal concept” in FCA. It shows us the importance of certain philosophical inspirations for science.
