Abstract
While conventional line generators consisting of rotationally symmetric glass lenses have been widely used for many applications, their optical performances can be improved by using sophisticated optics. Here we report the advantages of our line generators and production technique. We utilize free-form glass lenses to focus laser beams on entire regions of arbitrary-curved surfaces. High energy efficiency is achieved by reducing the size of tool marks left on the lens surfaces. An advanced manufacturing process for free-form surface on carbide materials is briefly discussed.
