Abstract
AWE are currently undergoing the process of developing highly loaded energetic composite formulations and require a model to predict the mechanical behaviour. It was decided to develop a constituent model to allow for the determination of mechanical properties of these composites, whilst reducing the amount of physical handling of the materials. Fracture testing of a reference material composed of the chosen filler and a binder with known mechanical properties was undertaken. DIC was used to generate strain maps during mechanical testing. This in turn was used to populate these predictive models.
