The need for the correct knowledge of the distribution of physical fields (e.g., pressure, mechanical stress, temperature) has initiated the design and implementation of a sensing device which uses fiber optic microbend sensor. The device is equipped with a central processor which is monitoring 16 individual fiber optic microbend devices as point sensors. It can easily be expanded to 32, 48, or n x 16 point sensors.
