Abstract

All detector arrays are fabricated for specific applications. Microlenses are used to increase the optical fill factor. Silicon detectors are sensitive from the UV to 1.1 μm. Color filter arrays (CFAs) are placed over the detectors to create specific spectral responses to create color imagery. The Foveon detector is a vertically stacked detector where blue, green, and red are absorbed at different depths. The largest market is the cell phone, with the consumer camera market second. The cell phone market always wants smaller arrays to make the phone smaller, lighter, and reduce power consumption. The camera market concentrates on color reproduction fidelity.
