Electroplating is a process for metal and/or metal alloy deposition by electrolysis from a salt solution. A metal salt dissolved in a polar solvent is present in an ionic form; the most commonly used solvent is water. There are a great number of metals and metal alloys that can be electrodeposited from an aqueous solution. Plating from aqueous solutions is commercially used in decorative metal applications; in the automotive, aerospace, and electronic industries; in metal recovery from ores, and many other applications. Most of the electroplating from aqueous solutions is carried out in a temperature range of 10 to 100°C.
