Editor(s): Arthur H. Guenther
Author(s): Golini, Don, SANICA Ventures LLC; Pollicove, Harvey M., Univ. of Rochester
Abstract
In the past 10 years, remarkable advances have been made in the development and commercial availability of computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment and deterministic processes for optics manufacturing. Virtually nonexistent prior to 1990, CNC optical machining and finishing centers have now become an essential shop floor necessity. This chapter describes the manufacturing transformation that has occurred in the optical industry as a result of CNC machine development, and provides an overview of the equipment that has evolved.
