Abstract
The spherical aberration (SA) of human eyes has been extensively measured since the beginning of the 19th century and shows a considerable variability among subjects. Experimental data taken from a number of authors with different techniques are reported following the reviews provided by Liou and Brennan and Atchison and Smith. Data used here are expressed as power errors, which are the vergence difference between a marginal and paraxial ray in an object or external space, hence the proposed definition of external spherical aberration (ESA).
