Increasing the Density and Functionality of Photonic Integration with Nanowaveguides and Nanostructures

Abstract
With the development of nanofabrication technologies, high-performance computers, and fast simulation software, researchers have created many single-function photonic devices and complex photonic systems on chips. In order to increase the integrated density (not only for telecommunications chips, but also for sensing chips), we need to reduce the device size, using high-optical-confinement components. However, the optical confinement of traditional components is limited by the diffraction limit.
