Optical Admittance Matching
Moving light optimally from one point to another involves maximizing the transferred power, which often means minimizing the reflected power. This has similarities to maximum power transfer theorems in electrical engineering, where it is important to match the generator impedance to the load impedance. Impedance mismatches lead to power being reflected rather than transmitted. Recall that admittance is the inverse of the impedance and clearly, in optical systems, reflection of light at a surface means that there is a difference in the admittance between the immersion medium and the optical system.
