Chapter 7:
Offband Effects in Induced-Transmission Filters
Abstract
Metals have long been used to make optical elements as parts of optical systems and are often associated with mirrors. First surface mirrors are used throughout the optics industry to provide reflective surfaces without ghost images, i.e., without secondary reflections. The reflective surface can be constructed from a thin-film coating of a pure metal or as a multilayer dielectric. For the simple metal coatings, the performance of each metal varies with wavelength and the metal selected for a particular application is matched to the operating wavelength.
