Abstract
Piezoelectric power-generation devices can be divided into two categories: (a) self-energizing devices (self-powered solely by the static or dynamic movement of piezoelectric devices), and (b) energy-harvesting devices that are attached to existing structures that vibrate during operation of the structure. Both of these devices capture otherwise wasted mechanical loading and convert it to electrical power. This chapter briefly describes some of the important proposed devices, including possible applications of piezoelectric generators.
