Abstract
The imagery and data collected by tactical and strategic sensors operating in the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is generated by emitted radiation from targets and backgrounds rather than from reflected radiation. These infrared sensors can give non-literal information that may have different values than that from comparable panchromatic (visible) images. A large range of tactical and strategic sensors operate solely in the IR, sensing the emitted radiation from targets and backgrounds, as opposed to the reflected radiation previously discussed.
