Dyadics are as American as apple pie, being the brainchildren of Gibbs. In 1884, he circulated a pamphlet introducing the concept and nomenclature of dyadics.Mathematics books with dyadic notation were often written during the early twentieth century, but most mathematicians appear to have eventually discarded dyadics in favor of tensors. In electromagnetics though, dyadic notation is still being used with great profit.
