Chapter 11:
Interface between Ultrafast Optics and Optical Storage for Ultrafast Data Communication and Processing
Abstract
An optical storage system interfaced with spatial-temporal converters for ultrafast data communication is presented. In the system, a large amount of data stored in a holographic memory system can be sent to remote users at an ultrafast rate via optical fibers. When data to be stored are encoded by optical encryption techniques, the data communications become very secure. The retrieval of the original data can be achieved when the correct key is used in the decryption system after the transmission via fibers. We describe the operation for encryption and decryption together with data transmission using spatial-temporal converters. We also show numerical results of the data transmission in the system.
