The function of storage is to safely maintain the optic and reduce the risk of damage. The optic should come out of storage in the same condition as it went in. This chapter has two sections: one discussing short-term storage (less than a year), and one discussing long-term storage (greater than a year). These storage methods are for common types of optics. This chapter references MIL specs and the standard practices used in the optical industry; the storage methods and materials are updated to meet present-day requirements. When addressing special requirements, refer to the supplier sections for help finding a vendor.
