This chapter covers the common techniques used to clean both small and large optics. Topics discussed in previous chapters are applied here to develop the skills needed to clean optics.
These cleaning methods have historically been explained in many
forms and passed along. The skills in this chapter require a certain
level of practice and patience—it is best to not rush the process, as
cleaning requires careful forethought and planning. Steps should be
followed in order because a misstep could lead to starting again.
From this chapter onward, it is important to read and understand
the sections relevant to the process to be applied. Review the next few chapters to decide if one or more special techniques may also be necessary.
