Estimation of Contact Stresses in Small Mirrors
Abstract
In this chapter, we summarize the use of equations derived elsewhere that convert mounting forces and geometrical relationships into material stresses. First, we consider compressive stresses in axially clamped mirrors, then radial stresses in mirrors that fit closely radially into their mounts, and then bending stresses due to improperly placed contact regions on mirrors. The final topic considered here (briefly) is teh development of stresses in bonded mirrors.
