Abstract
This chapter examines basic MQS phenomenology, i.e., the fundamental occurrences and relations in the MQS regime that are at the root of discrimination sensing. Knowing what to expect, along with a grasp of cause and effect, forms the basis for the modeling, representation, and parameterization required by discrimination. The discussion frequently exploits the solutions to canonical cases, as well as a few fundamental measurements. To explore related material and more comprehensive treatments, the reader is referred to other publications [e.g., Refs. 1–5] and to the electromagnetics texts mentioned in Chapter 1.
